Today’s Featured Female Entrepreneur-Felicia Slattery

Felicia J. Slattery

Today I have the privilege of featuring one of my good friends, Felicia Slattery.  Without further ado, here’s more information about Felicia.

1. Tell me about yourself and your business.
Felicia J. Slattery lives her life with energy, passion and enthusiasm because she realizes each moment is precious.  After nearly losing her life during childbirth in 2004, she began to put her communication and public speaking talents to use to create a positive impact on the world.  She is a teacher, trainer, speaker, writer, consultant and coach and specializes in training busy professionals to succeed through effective communication and by delivering results-driven presentations.  She holds two Master’s Degrees: one in Adult Education and Training and another in Communication. Her enthusiastic passion for communication is contagious because she knows that one important message delivered with power can transform a life.  Learn more about Felicia at www.CommunicationTransformation.com.

2. What made you decide to start this business?

I started my business in 2006 after recovering from a traumatic birth and near-death experience.  I wanted to be home with my daughters, while also doing work in my field of expertise, contributing to my family’s bottom line and also helping as many other people as I could with the message that effective communication can change your life!

3. What advice would you give to someone who was starting a brand new business?
My advice: keep moving forward.  When you get an idea, see it through until you get ‘er done! Don’t try to do it alone – invest in the best coach you can afford to help you each step of the way.  Even if you can only do 1 month or 1 session at a time… find someone who is where you want to be and get their help.  Don’t give up. Finally don’t mistake being busy for being productive. Set some goals and reach them.

4. What do you like the most about working for yourself?

I’m a lifestyle person—so I love being able to run my business and work on my terms.  I can be there for my kids and be the room Mom and volunteer at school.  And I have time for things I enjoy like cooking and gardening while being able to coach people and create information that truly helps people reach their dreams for their businesses and lives. It’s so cool!

5. What do you like the least about working for yourself?

I miss the regular social interaction of an office, but I really make up for that thru social media sites such as Twitter and at live events where I am a speaker or am getting some advanced training.  So really—it’s all pretty good!

6. What challenges have you faced because you are a female entrepreneur?

For me the biggest struggle has come as a result of being a Mom.  There are many speaking events nationally and internationally I have had to turn down because I only travel once per month at the most so I can be home for my girls.
