Choose the right forums for your product/service
This is very important if you are using forums as a way to drive prospects to your website. Make sure the forum you pick is right for what you are promoting. Don’t try to sell something business related to a hobby forum. It won’t work. The best way to find a forum related to your niche is to go to google and type in the subject you are interested in + the word forum. Now if you’re looking for a business related forums I can suggest two. One is a forum that I own. It’s called the Learn Small Business Forum and it is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs learn how to run a business. For now the only level you can join at is free. In a few months I’ll have the paid section of the forum ready. Another good one is the Self Starter’s Weekly Tips Forum. The best way to join this forum is as an elite member. Elite members get tons of one on one help with their business that free members just don’t get. They also get brainstorming webinars with Lynn Terry, founder of Self Starter’s Weekly Tips. In order to join the Learn Small Business Forum and the Self Starter’s Weekly Tips Forum, click on the words Learn Small Business Forum and Self Starter’s Weekly Tips Forum. When you click on the words Self Starter’s Weekly Tips Forum you are clicking on an affiliate link and I will make a commission when you join. So join these forums today and actively participate. Your business will only grow when you actively participate in forums. Don’t just be a fly by night spammer. That won’t get you very far.

Interview with Loretta Oliver of Transcription Crash Course
It’s Friday! Time for a site review and an interview.
First the review…
I had the pleasure of reviewing this product a while back. I must say that this is a great starting point for anyone looking to start their own transcription service. Loretta even includes an audio file for you to practice on. Here is an interview I did with Loretta to give you some more information.
1. How do I start a transcription business?
I would say that the first step to getting started is to familiarize yourself with the tools you’ll be using, just like any new thing. You’ll want to be familiar with the transcription program you’re going to use, the word processor you’re going to use (Word or Open Office etc..), and then practice using those tools.
2. What are the basic qualities I need to be successful in a transcription business?
I think the only thing you really need is the desire to make a go of the business, even if just part time. I think working from home freelancing in general takes a certain kind of personality, because it really can be a lonely journey and you have to take that into consideration.
3. What can I learn by reading this book?
I wrote Transcription Crash Course to answer the basic getting started questions that I was hearing over and over again from people that wanted to get started, like what tools to use, where to find your first pieces of work, how to format things, etc…
4. Do I have to have prior experience with transcription to start a transcription business?
When you’re looking at general transcription, absolutely not. Sure, experience is helpful, but it’s not required. With a little practice on your own and some patience in finding the first few jobs you’ll be going in no time at all. Once you get those first few jobs under your belt and maybe a few testimonials things will start to come together pretty quickly for you.
5. What is the most important thing to do to have a successful transcription business.
For me it’s giving value to my clients. Take the time to build the client relationship, find out what they need, and offer it to them at a reasonable rate. I think if you do that you can’t go wrong.
